OVERVIEW

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Political Science Department of St. Bede’s College was inaugurated in 1971, with the affiliation of the college to the then newly founded Himachal Pradesh University. From its inception, the Department has had as its mission, the task of building a healthy awareness of the political environment of India and the world among its students. It has addressed itself to this through its vision of inculcating a holistic and inter-disciplinary approach towards scholastic enquiry and learning. It is a vibrant and pro-active department, encouraging debate and discussion on a wide range of current issues and political trends through departmental activities.

VISION

  • The mission of the department is to expose the students to how politics is rooted in human nature. The vision of the department is to prepare students for opportunities and challenges of competitive world so they can actively participate in political system and contribute towards nation building.

MISSION

To prepare the students to become responsible citizens and contribute towards wellbeing of state and nation.

  • To increase the deeper understanding of politics and government.
  • To cultivate critical thinking among students for achieving creative excellence.
  • To expose the students to variety of activities aimed at their all-round development.

OBJECTIVE

  • To increase understanding of discipline, concepts and methods to study Political Science.
  • To increase the knowledge of Political Systems around the world.
  • To understand political concepts and political process.

Quiz Competitions, Class Debates, Individual Presentations, Project Work, Group Discussions, Documentaries and Field Visits.

Mid-Semester tests are conducted and are a mandatory part of the teaching-learning practice.

Students are members of the Electoral Literacy Club and participate in awareness building workshops from time to time.

A departmental newspaper is brought out every year with contributions from the
