NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian Government-Sponsored Public Service Programme implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in 1969, during the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, in 37 universities involving 40000 students. It is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a Campus-Community linkage. The sole aim of the NSS is to develop student’s personality through community service and provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. The NSS unit was established in St. Bede’s College in the year 1970 and it regularly conducts various social activities/camps throughout the year to create awareness amongst the youth to the realities of underprivileged. NSS attempts to establish meaningful linkages between ‘Campus and Community’, ‘College and Village’ and ‘Knowledge and Action’.
