St. Bede’s College Wins First Prize in Environment Leadership Award
Shimla, June 5: St. Bede’s College, Shimla, has been awarded First Prize in the Environment Leadership Award 2026 by the Department of Environment, Science, Technology and Climate Change, Government of Himachal Pradesh. The award was presented by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, in recognition of the college’s outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action.
The college also received a cash prize of ₹50,000 to further strengthen its environmental initiatives.
St. Bede’s College has emerged as a model green campus through its efforts in renewable energy adoption, rainwater harvesting, waste management, biodiversity conservation, environmental research, and community engagement. The institution has established a rainwater harvesting capacity,solar lighting and solar water heating systems, and achieved significant carbon footprint reduction through recycling initiatives.
Over the past two years, the college has organized numerous Swachh Bharat activities, tree plantation drives, environmental training programmes, and sustainability-focused research projects. Functional composting and paper recycling units, a comprehensive Plant Census, and a thriving herbal garden further reflect the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability initiatives.
