    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    Department of Economics was established in 1970 with the aim to provide the students with analytical and critical thinking skills for lifelong learning. The faculty members and the students of the department strive to achieve distinction in academic and extension activities. They not only participate in the teaching- learning process but also engage themselves in collaborative and individual research.

    MISSION

    The Mission of the Department is to empower students by developing their analytical skills for life long learning.

    VISION

    The Vision of the Department is to prepare students for opportunities and challenges of a competitive world and the changing economy by emphasising on critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning skills.

    The department uses modern teaching methods and ICT in teaching-learning.

    • E- learning is encouraged, whereby the students access the internet for their    personal  assignments and projects.
    • Class tests are conducted every month and regular discussions and seminars are also held.
    • Tutorials and remedial classes are held for weak students & slow learners.
    • The teachers of the department participate actively in all the academic activities of the department, college  and the University.
    • They are appointed as paper setters, evaluators and examiners.
    • They help in conducting house and annual examinations every year.

    STUDENT PROGRESSION 

    The students have made the department proud by securing top positions in the University Examination. Students are well placed in different walks of life.

    Students have joined the best institutes for their higher studies like London School of Economics, Jamia Milia Islamia University, New Delhi, SIMC Pune, Punjab University, Himachal Pradesh University, Amity University, Dehradun University, Banasthali University, Social Work from TISS, Mumbai, PIBM, Pune to name a few. Some of our students are pursuing LLB, B.Ed, MBA from reputed institutes.

    Many students are working in nationalized and private sector banks all over the country. Students are also preparing for NET, SET, HAS, IAS etc. Many students have cleared national and state competitive examinations. Our students are working as research associates.

    Many of our students are working in reputed institutions/organisations like National Nutrition Mission with the Ministry of Women and Child Development in Ranchi, Jharkhand, ICICI Prudential, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi, Executive – FlyNote, Bangalore, HDFC Bank, WhiteHat Jr. Students have also taken up teaching as profession in reputed educational institutions in Shimla like Auckland House, Convent of Jesus and Mary, DAV School, Loreto Convent.
