NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian Government-sponsored public service programme implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. It is popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched during 1969, the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, in 37 universities involving 40000 students.NSS is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community (esp. Villages) linkage. The sole aim of the NSS is to develop student’s personality through community service and provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. Since inception of the NSS in the year 1969, the number of students strength increased from 40,000 to over 3.8 million up to the end of March 2018. The NSS unit was established in the college in the year 1970 and presently, the college has two NSS units. The units regularly conduct various social activities/camps throughout the year to create awareness amongst the youth to the realities of underprivileged. NSS attempts to establish meaningful linkages between ‘Campus and Community’, ‘College and Village’ and ‘Knowledge and Action’.

Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat was announced by Hon'ble Prime Minister on 31st October, 2015 on the occasion of the 140th birth anniversary of Saddar i Patel. The Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat programme, aims to actively enhance interaction between people of diverse cultures living in different States and UTs in India, with the objective of promoting greater mutual understanding amongst them.
As per the programme, every State/UT would be paired with another State/UT in India for reciprocal interaction between the people. The St. Xavier College Aluva, Kerala and St. Bede’s College, Shimla took initiative. It is envisaged through this exchange, that the knowledge of the language, culture, traditions and practices of different states will lead to an enhanced understanding and bonding between one another, thereby strengthening the unity and integrity of India.

Independence Day Celebrations |
Independence Day celebrations were held in the college keeping covid -19 safety measures in mind. The Principal Mrs Nandini Pathania unfurled the National flag, which was followed by the National Anthem. Sister Magdelene conducted a prayer for the well being of humanity and a prosperous, healthy India. A short programme consisting of two speeches, a poem and two songs was held. The festivities ended with a tree plantation organised by the NSS unit of the college. |
